Megijima
Megijima
Welcome to Setouchi Fantasy Island
Megijima is a very small and peaceful island with a circumference of about 9km and a population of about 100 people. What brought Megijima into the limelight was a cave discovered in 1914 by Sentaro Hashimoto, an elementary school teacher in Takamatsu. The caves of Megijima were announced to the world in connection with the legend of Momotaro, and Megijima suddenly became famous as the island that served as the model for Onigashima, which appears in Momotaro. After that, the entire island was designated as the "Setonaikai National Park" and many tourists began to visit. To this day, it remains a popular resort area that can be easily visited from Takamatsu.
